Marshall, Michigan – Marshall Community Credit Union (MCCU) is excited to announce that Brendan Parks, John Paul Rodgers, and Skyler Starring have been hired as the 2026-27 CU in School Student Tellers. Brendan and John Paul attend Marshall High School (MHS) and Skyler attends Battle Creek Central High School (BCCHS).
All three students have spent the summer working at their local MCCU branch, gaining hands-on experience with credit union operations, member service and financial education. As Student Tellers, they will bring that experience back to their schools, where they will handle transactions at their respective CU in School branches and help create opportunities for their peers and school staff to engage with money and personal finance.
In addition to working at their school branches, the students will have the opportunity to continue working at their local MCCU branch as their schedules permit throughout the school year.
As part of their Student Teller roles, Brendan, John Paul and Skyler will participate in an independent study under the guidance of MCCU’s Community & Youth Engagement Manager, Laura Santos. Through the program, students deepen their understanding of personal finance and financial responsibility while learning about credit union operations, customer service and potential career opportunities.
“Our Student Teller program is designed to give students more than just a job,” said Santos. “They’re stepping into a real-world environment where they can practice managing money, serving others, communicating professionally and making financial decisions. We’re excited to see Brendan, John Paul, and Skyler take what they’ve learned through their training and share it with their classmates and school communities.”
The BCCHS CU in School branch celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, September 10, and MHS CU in School branch opened on Friday, September 11. Both branches provide students and staff with the opportunity to conduct transactions during designated lunch periods throughout the school year.
MCCU has partnered with Marshall Public Schools since 2001 to bring financial education to students and staff members through its CU in School program. In 2025, MCCU expanded the program to Battle Creek Central High School, extending its student-run banking model and hands-on financial education opportunities to another school community.
