Marshall Community Credit Union (MCCU) has partnered with South Michigan Food Bank (SMFB) as the first organization to participate in SMFB’s Employee of the Month Giving Program, an initiative that connects employee recognition with charitable giving to support hunger relief across South Michigan.
The Employee of the Month Giving Program invites employers to honor outstanding team members by making a charitable contribution to SMFB in their name. Participating organizations submit a brief story highlighting the employee’s contributions, which SMFB features on its Giving Tree wall and across social media, linking positive workplace culture with community impact.
The partnership builds on MCCU’s ongoing support of SMFB by aligning the credit union’s internal Missional Leadership Awards with the Employee of the Month Giving Program. For each quarterly award recipient, MCCU makes a $250 donation to SMFB to recognize them on the Giving Tree.
“Our Missional Leadership Awards recognize team members who live our mission in providing service, solutions, and education to members, as well as the team,” said Alyssa Jones, Marketing Director at MCCU. “Connecting that recognition to South Michigan Food Bank’s Employee of the Month program allowed us to extend that appreciation beyond our four walls and directly support the community. It’s a powerful reminder that individual leadership can create a ripple effect far greater than any one organization.”
MCCU’s award recipients are selected by their peers. In 2025, six MCCU team members were recognized through the program: Alyssa Jones (Q1), Laura Van Dyke and Janell Quinn (Q2), Dan Montross (Q3), and Rhyan Zavala and Shamar Flowers (Q4).
Beyond the Employee of the Month initiative, MCCU has supported SMFB through additional employee-led fundraising efforts, donation drives, and community giving programs throughout 2025.
“We’re grateful to MCCU for being the first organization to participate and for demonstrating how strengthening employee culture can also strengthen our community,” said Lori Sunie, Development Director at South Michigan Food Bank. “We invite any organization looking to make a difference to join us in our mission to end hunger.”
