Beyond the Branch: Kindness in Action

CU Kind Day is one of my favorite days of the year—a time to step out into the community and share a little unexpected joy. From lending a helping hand to brightening someone’s day in a meaningful way, CU Kind Day embodies the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” It’s a powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact on the members and communities we serve.
Kindness Through Young Eyes
Leading up to CU Kind Day, held on October 13, 2025, we encouraged local tweens to take on our Kindness Challenge—using $160 to do something good for others. Their creativity and compassion were truly inspiring.
One participant treated unsuspecting diners to lunch, sharing:
“I want to do this because I want to spread kindness and positivity.”
Another chose to support a local horse rescue by improving their riding arena, explaining:
“By improving the riding arena, I hope others will be able to come out and ride—to experience what I feel when riding.”
Another used the funds to buy gas gift cards with handwritten notes of encouragement.
These young changemakers showed that small actions can spark big smiles—and that a sprinkle of kindness can go a long way.
A Small Gesture Sparks a Movement
On October 13, MCCU team members visited grocery stores in Battle Creek, Coldwater, and Marshall—armed with $50 bills to surprise shoppers. Watching their faces light up as we helped cover their groceries was a powerful reminder that sometimes, the smallest gestures make the biggest difference.
And what happened next was even more inspiring. At a store in Coldwater, many shoppers chose to pay it forward, using their own money to surprise someone else in line. One act of kindness turned into many, creating a ripple effect that spread throughout the store.
Community Kindness—All Year Long
CU Kind Day may come once a year, but our commitment to kindness never stops. Whether we’re sponsoring local events, volunteering at community fundraisers, or supporting youth programs, we’re proud to stand beside the people and organizations that make our communities stronger.
Because when kindness is part of your culture, every day is CU Kind Day.
